She, school maintenance and grounds director David Jones, and Mike Sparkman, the school's architectural consultant, all had good news on the readiness of the facilities on opening day, including new lighting along campus drives, new air conditioning and a new roof at Adair County High School, and more as the physical transformation of the school grounds over the past few years has given Adair County more good press around the state than it has ever received. Sweet peas, probably from plantings decades ago, are prolific in yards in the delightful, stopped-in-time Old Breeding Community along the Breeding Loop. Some may know about the plant's Mediterranean Heritage, it's importance in the work of Gregor Mendel, (See: Wikipedia: Sweet Pea) and get nostalgic for the good old days of the 1940's and 50's, when they were a mainstay in gardens everywhere. Everyone will delight in the happy faces they present today and the wonderful scent of the heirloom blossoms.
