Mayor Curtis Hardwick: Open for suggestions

Mayor Curtis Hardwick has been achieving many of his goals by being open to input from citizens and councilmembers. At last night's meeting, three the proposals sailed through the chamber, including, but not limited to: 1) The approval of his recommendation of Adair County Deputy Judge Executive Andrea Waggener to take a seat on the Lake Cumberland Area Development District. and 2) The Council's quick acceptance of a $94,300 refund necessitated overpayment into the City's Insurance Tax Fund, which will be paid in three monthly installments. and 3) The Council's Agreement to participate in Columbia/Adair County EDA-Adair County Fiscal Court-City of Columbia jointly fund Retail Survey, (subject to approval by Fiscal Court tonight) at a cost of $5,000 for each entity. - EW. Jim Richards: Remember Sulphur Swimming hole as deeper

A second family elder, in addition to Ralph Roy Waggener, at Christmas in July 2017 - this year in August - Jim Richards, was most impressed by a visit to one of his boyhood swimming holes, at the confluence of Sulphur & Russell Creeks. He thought the hole seem shallower than 'in his day' the 1940's and 50's, and was amazed that there was a whole lot of kayaking going on; nobody had heard of a kayak in Adair County when he was a boy - much less did it. His youngest grandson organized the trip to "the river," where he met a future president of the United States, Kasey Blue, who had organized his parents, Tiffany & Eddie Kessler for their family outing. The Richardses were impressed with the ongoing popularity of what was once a popular retreat, and is becoming more so, today, with enthusiasm for paddle trail activities exploding. - EW
