Birds of Paradise, U.S.A. - Blue Heron along Cool Springs Creek
2017-08-10 - Gradyville, Paradise, U.S.A. - Photo by Guy Babin. This guy is a long-term resident of our neck of Cool Springs Creek. He spends most of his time fishing for wild minnows and other critters that inhabit the waters. The morning I took the photo, he was hanging out in neighbor Todd and Cozetta Legg's pasture along the creek seemingly preoccupied with land-based prey and preening. He's a shy, quiet, yet stately fixture here in Paradise USA--a welcome part of our daily experience as we pass his favorite fishin' hole tending the cattle. Of course he, could be a she . . . Road Foreman Terry Corbin: Fighting Johnson grass, getting new pickups
2017-08-10 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Adair County Road Foreman gave a brief report to the Tue 08 Aug 2017 regular session of Adair Fiscal Court, noting that all is well, mowing is going well, though Johnson Grass is especially pesky this season. Magistrate Daryl Flatt, recommended new crew cab pickups for the Road Department, and the court vote unanimously to advertise for bids. On the state contract, the trucks will cost approximately $36,000 each. No bid advertisement is needed to buy off the state contract, but members of the court believe they can match or better the price through a local dealer, and felt the delay and added advertising cost would be well worth the effort to have service more readily available. - EW. Busy Courthouse Chimney restoration/reminder of Joe Moore art
2017-08-10 - Historic Adair County Courthouse from Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Hundreds of Adair Countians who remember the delightfully whimsical art of the late Joe Moore, will remember his drawing with the clocktower buzzing with workmen, drawn to remember the 1970s courthouse renovation work done by Joe McLean and son, Gerald. (We're searching for our copy of the drawing; would appreciate any help) The workmen above, from Colonial Restoration of Columbia, KY, are repairing the chimneys. Judge Michael Lee Stephens' office is reminding motorists to use extra caution - and slow down - while driving in the area while the restoration work is in progress. - EW. Photo 09 Aug 2017, (c) Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Clicking Read More accesses story of ceremony honoring Joe Moore, and complete for Monday, August 7, 2017 regular monthly session of the Columbia City Council.
