Scenic Cumberland Co., KY - Joe Pye Weed at peak
2017-08-12 - Westfork Road, Cumberland County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Most often, Joe Pye Weed is a supporting character, not the star of the show, sometimes for a whole summer season. It's at its peak now on Westfork Road in Cumberland, a delightful day trip/lunch time side trip which extends from KY 704 to Greenbriar Ridge near Breeding in Adair County. The view is looking north. Along the way, the road name, at the Cumberland/County Line, becomes Gibson Road. Both directions offer some grand views, often thinly obscured by vegetation, making semi-hidden panoramas a bit mysterious. Oh, and by the way. First timers might want to experience the scenery both ways - Going from the intersection of Gibson Road & Greenbriar Road to KY 704, and then loop back. The experience is delightfully different either way, - EW. Photo Fri Aug 11, 2017.

Dinosaur Sighting in Gradyville??? - Eastern Fence Lizard
2017-08-12 - Gradyville, Paradise, U.S.A. - Photo by Guy Babin. Dinosaur Sighting In Gradyville??? While moving logs with the loader from a felled dead oak on the back forty, I noticed this interloper riding along clutching one of the logs as I hauled them to my wood pile next to the shop. About six or seven inches long, this one made the trip like she's done it all her scaly lizard life. A quick Wiki check verified that it's an Eastern Fence Lizard--most likely a female as adult males have blue accents. They like to eat all sorts of bugs and enjoy sunning themselves on fence posts, which is how they come by their common name. Ya just never know what kind of interesting bug, plant, or critter you'll find if you keep your eyes open! - Guy Babin Photo Guy Babin (c)

Hide and seek worked well among giant elephant ears
2017-08-11 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Mitzi Bault. Cousins enjoyed visiting and sharing crazy fun times on McKinley Lane this week during the annual Christmas in July (only it was in August this time) celebration. In this picture Beth Ann Cravens plays hide and seek with her cousins among the giant elephant ear plants beside the house. Elders in the family remember that her dad, the late Dr. Paul Cravens, had her exact love of fun and laughter. - LW
