Old Gradyville Rd. Bridge 1st closed - Flash Flood of 01 Sep 2017
2017-09-01 - Bridge at Old Gradyville Road & Paul Coomer Road, Gradyville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The little bridge over Big Creek at the intersection of Old Gradyville Road and Paul Coomer Road was the first closure of the day, today, on Friday, 1 Sep 2017, by Adair County Road Foreman Terry Corbin, and the first to re-open. This photo was taken at 12:30pmCT, after the road had reopened. There was plenty of evidence of the wide swath in bottom land pastures flattened a few hours earlier, however. Mr. Corbin urges everyone to be extremely cautious on Adair County Roads today, especially lowlying areas, including this one. With more rainfall Friday, it's entirely possible that this passage may be closed again. - EW/LW

2017-09-01 - Gradyville Country Club Road, Gradyville, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The gully-washers today have caused flash flooding in many places, but along with the havoc wreaked on many bridges and stream crossings, there has been added beauty, as with this wet weather cascade into Richard Branch on Gradyville Country Club Road. Photo taken at 12:46pmCT, in search of flood evidence and BBQ - found at Jamie Richard's place across the road from the falls. - EW

Butterflies of KY: Mystery moth before the rain
2017-09-01 - Harrodsburg or Columbia, KY - Photo by Mike Watson, Adair County Historian. Mike Watson sends this moth, photographed before the rains started, with a great photo for a mystery this morning. He wrote, "Observed this passive Goodwill shopper late Thursday trying to blend in and making plans for a safe haven during the coming deluge." Anyone know exactly which moth this is? Reply using the Comments link with this photo. We think Polyphemus Moth - the identification would be easier if the underwings were showing, to check for the large "eyes" on that part of the moth. - EW.
