Dean of Students Robbie Harmon, right, and First Division School Board Member Terry Harvey, listen to comments from Mike Harris on the idea Dean Harmon floated on the possibility of Adair County instituting a paperless registration process. Harmon presented the proposal without advocating a change, acknowledging that there would be additional costs - $7,500 per year to the software/consultant service - and that the current system is working really well. The board will be saving $3,000 this year, even without the paperless registration by providing online, paperless student manuals by eliminating hard copies and their attendant copier and paper fees. Harvey, the board's vice chairman, agreed the board's decision on paperless registration, but said that he is hopeful that Adair County Schools will take advantage of the State Board of Education option to have online education in lieu of snow days. Adair County School Board member Mike Harris (Div 5) was doubtful that the expense, though modest, for switching to paperless registration in Adair County Schools would be useful at this time. The idea was floated, for board's consideration, at the Thu 21 Sep 2017 regular session of the board, by Dean of Students Robbie Harmon. Mr. Harris noted that some had wanted paperless meetings, with each board member assigned a Chromebook, but that the idea was not adopted. He said that he favors having a notebook, such as the one he is holding, citing an easy feature, being able to enter notes at any time after it's receipt. When no motion came for the proposal, the idea was tabled. Mr. Harris said that he wasn't opposed to the idea for the future, but, with an initial additional cost now, he thought it better wait. - EW.
