Poke in its red-stalky phase
2017-09-30 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. In late September, poke, left to its own notions, grows the heights of 12 feet or so. Stalks take on a bright red hue, and, though they have a similarity to rhubarb stalks, they are inedible and one would guess, toxic at this stage.

From Greater Bliss to Greater Gadberry, up close
2017-09-30 - Loy Cemetery Road, Gadberry, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. It's a long way by roadway from Greater Bliss to Greater Gadberry, but as the telephoto lens goes, in the autumn days of crisp, clear long range vision, it seem the world is smaller. This view of the some of the unique residential skyline on Loy Cemetery Road, as taken from the Kenneth Strange Hill, south of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway on 29 Sep 2017. - EW/LW

Squarecrow #42 VFW Auxiliary
2017-09-29 - Baptist Church Alta Garnett Lawn, Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. - Photo photo by Della Hare. Joe & Della Hare have placed this patriotic Squarecrow on the Columbia Baptist Church lot where Mrs. Alta Garnett's house stood on Greensburg Street. He salutes passersby and we can't help but salute back and thank him for his service. "He is the the "brainchild" of the Auxiliary, Joe Hare writes, adding, "Patty Troutman, Danny Burton, Trudy Crabb, Ada Coffey, Pat Smith and Della Hare were the builders. Of course they were cheered on by Joe Coffey and myself. Please give the Auxiliary the credit." - Ellen Zornes, Adair Heritage Association.
