A Halloweenish black hole entrance to 'Sleepy Hollow'
2017-10-02 - Grassy Springs Road, McGaha Kentucky - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. It's not really spooky, but as sundown was approaching Saturday night, it was easy to conjure up headless horsemen and a frightened Ichabod Crain, lights in the woods and a fright night creation by a fundraising group at this spot on the outskirts of McGaha, Adair County, once a thriving little town complete with a mill, but now mostly residential, still the home of the first - and later one more - of 20 bridges built in CJE Ann Melton administration - of the famous Log Church, and some of Adair County's most beautiful farmland. - EW

Squarecrow # 40 - Jeffries Hardware man
2017-10-02 - Corner Jamestown Street & Public Square - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. There are more Squarecrows to wave to Monday morning, October 2, 2017. It will be easy to make eye contact with the tall hardware guy as one takes the crosswalk from the old Jeffries Building (Lindsey Wilson Building) to the one time Lerman Bros Department Store building. If you have your own Dewalt cordless drill, you may want to wave it. This afternoon and evening check downtown again. The street scene is changing fast. - EW

Porter, present pastor, led in the restoration of building and reestablished regular services in 1967." Pleasant View United Baptist Church
2017-10-01 - McGaha, Christine Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The Pleasant View United Baptist Church is located on Christine Road, and is effectively one of the cornerstones of Adair County's "Putman County." There's a 'For Sale' sign on the door, but we didn't get the details, nor do we know if the property is still available. For more on the church, there's an interesting article posted on CM in 2009: Pleasant View Baptist Church in McGaha by historian E.H. Lepiarczyk, with links to other photo(s). - EW. Paired photo

Sheri Norris celebrates '25th' birthday 30 Sep 2017
2017-10-01 - Breeding Country Mart, 14332 Burkesville Road, Breeding, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Zoie Norris delivered a surprise birthday cake to her mother, Sheri Norris, who openly admitted her age, "25," as she celebrated another birthday on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Zoie's sib, Gabby Norris, husband Mike, and a house full of guests were invited to share in the cake - which some respectfully did, while others joined in the celebration enthusiastically but declined the cake in favor of resuming a celebration of another kind - consumption of vast amounts of Tim's Monroe County/Tennessee County style BBQ shoulder, ribs, and pulled pork plates and sandwiches. - EW
