The scene at mid morning, in 6600 area of Elkhorn Road/KY 76, west of Knifley, KY, between the Knifley Fire Department and Eastridge Cemetery Road, as HazMat workers, and first responders work to clear the site crash. Reports we are receiving is that the driver walked away from the crash and reported the single vehicle from a nearby house. Extent of his injuries, if any, have not been received. Cleanup and re-opening of KY 76, according to Mike Keltner, Adair County Emergency Director, at 9:59amCT, Wednesday morning, was expected to take several more hours. Mr. Keltner recommends drivers use alternate routes - Union Church Road and Robinson Ridge Road have been suggested - while cleanup is in progress. Scene early this morning, Wedesday, October 25, 2017, after a gasoline tanker owned by White Oil Company, Campbellsville, KY, overturned. The resulting spill necessitated blocking of Elkhorn Road (KY 76) just west of the Central Business District in Knifley for several hours. At 10:18amCT, the clean was continuing. HazMat teams and other first responders are in the area. Detours via Union Church Road and Robinson Ridge Road have been advised. He might be looking down Highway 55 South, waiting for the "paper" to be delivered but he was just taking a break, considering a photo possibility. Even though Ed Waggener communicates primarily on the internet today, he's forever known as "Paper Boy." It comes from his childhood days of delivering the Louisville Courier Journal to help earn money in his Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY family of eight, to investing in the Edmonton Herald News in partnership with his sister's brother-in-law Jody Richards, to partnering with his cousin and mentor Pete Walker for a company they'd name Waggener-Walker Newspapers, Inc., a Columbia-based business with several weekly newspapers which resulted in being a training ground for many in media today. Patterns of history on our Village Square 2017-10-25 - Area behind the original Dairy Queen, now Sweets & Eats, 114 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, Columbia, KY. A history lesson can be taught by looking at each of these buildings on the public square in Columbia -- our "village square" as one new resident calls it. In the center, the historic courthouse clock tower can be seen from this and all directions, it is our mark of home. The tallest buildings, on either side of Jamestown Street, result from years of greatest retail commerce on the square. The tall one on the right is in trouble now, the serious disrepair is bringing complaints to the city with questions about possibly starting the process for condemnation.
