An opinion piece on another page of that paper stated, in part, "Nineteen years ago, on November 11, 1918, the whole world was filled with rejoicing. The war was over. An Armistic had been agreed upon between the Allies and Associated Armies and those of the Central European powers. Four years of bloody warfare, the most tragic and deadly in the world's history, had come to an end." Warren "Buck" Perkins, 96, was the only World War II Veteran able to attend the Saturday morning breakfast at the new VFW center. He was awarded a gift quilt from the Country Quilters. Sharon Bledsoe, center, made the quilt, one of several to be given to Veterans, and she and Kathy Jones, left, made the presentation of the patriotic quilt. Mr. Perkins then called on Mackie Jo Pennington who works at Summit Manor and asked her to please take the gift quilt to his wife. Other WWII Veterans unable to attend will have their quilts delivered to them.
