JIM - Christmas Wish List, 10 Dec 1941

2017-12-10 - Columbia, KY - Photo from the collection of JIM.
Last chance for Christmas goodies, 1941 - The second week of December 1941 found the United States still reeling from the attack on Pearl Harbor and our next-day declaration of war against Japan. Almost immediately, plans were being made for rationing, but the Christmas merchandise Columbia merchants already had on hand wasn't affected. Still, that would be the last time until 1946 many gift items would be readily available to put under trees and to fill stockings. This ad for Royse Variety appeared in the December 10, 1941 Adair County News.

Robert Ellis: Scary woods along Caney Fork Creek

2017-12-09 - Along Caney Fork Creek, Coburg area - Photo by Robert Ellis, Robert Ellis Woodworking.com.

This particular scene caught my attention and I jokingly sent the image to a friend and called it my "Scary Woods photo" mostly due to the enchanted feel the photo lends. - ROBERT ELLIS. Kentucky Color: Monkey Grass Time of the Year

2017-12-09 - Green Hills neighborhood, Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Monkey Grass is easily planted, divided and transplanted, and has colorful hues of green going on all year with mostly violet, blue blooms in late Summer and early Autumn. For some varieties including this un-variegated one in my yard right now, late Fall is their showiest time of year. - BILLY JOE FUDGE
