Sidewalk clearance: Best ever? Not perfection, but progress
2018-01-19 - Adair County Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The Columbia Street Department did an excellent job clearing streets during the latest snow, and maybe the best ever at clearing sidewalks. Sidewalk snow removal isn't yet at the same level as streets, and some sidewalks - particularly those on The Pike segment of Burkesville Street beyond its intersection with Hudson, appeared untouched. But overall, progress was made. It's a welcome sight to see such progress, which was more appreciated than ever after a visit to the Adair County School District, where the overall campus maintenance is setting a new standard, and where the message is "Strive for progress, not perfection." - EW. Sermons on the Signs: The Message for 2018?
2018-01-19 - Adair County High School, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The message returning students will see on the Big A in front of Adair County High School is perhaps a message for the coming year, a message many pragmatists wish would be adhered to at all times. Always strive for true progress, improvement. That being said, the campus will look better than it ever has when students return to class on Monday, January 22, 2018. - EW. Paired Photo

School Board braved the snow for 18 Jan 2018 regular session
2018-01-19 - Adair County School District Central Office, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbia, KY. The Adair County School Board, above, had all eyes on the presentation by Dean of Students Robbie Harmon, as he presented the 2018-19 calendar. From left: Lauren McQuaide, student board member; Daniel Adams (Div 2); Dr. Pam Stephens, Superintendent; Board Chair, Lisa Burton (3), Board Member Jonathan Gaskins (4), and Vice Chair Terry Harvey (1). The board re-elected officers or the calendar year: Lisa Burton as Chair; Terry Harvey as Vice Chair; Dr. Stephens as secretary to the board, and retained the regular meeting time for 6pmCT, each third Thursday of each month. The agenda included the election of a board attorney, but Superintendent Stephens, who presided over the election of new offices, said that there was not needed, as Jeff Hoover's term, set in 2017, was for two years. - EW
