One of the interim safety projects which may get intention this summer includes the railing at this bridge on Greensburg Street. The sidewalk bridge is over an unnamed stream, a frequent run for deer from the Foust-Hurt Woods to Russell Creek, and is opposite the Harry Well Hollow. Adair County High School students support Parkland 2018-03-14 - 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by ACHS Asst. Principal Travis Gay. Adair County High School students led the local response to the national social media movement calling for a 17-minute walkout today, one month after 17 students were murdered at Parkland High School in Florida. The effort is meant to emphasize the message that violence in our schools must be stopped. The students were the leaders, according to ACHS assistant principal Travis Gay, with ground rules for safety and preparation set by the administration, they handled all the decisions for three different activities and chose the day, yesterday, March 13, 2018, for the local events. Kayla Frye presents roads for flex fund for 2018-2019 2018-03-14 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Kayla Frye, Engineer-in-Training from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's District 8, Somerset, KY office, present the 2018-19 recommended improvements for the county's Rural Secondary Roads. "Flex Funds." The recommendations were unanimously approved on a motion by Magistrate Terry Hadley (7), with a second by Harold Burton (1), with the full court voting unanimously to accept the recommendation (but this does not mean the projects will actually be built) proposed roads for asphalt resurfacing, a total of 7.750 miles, The four projects are: 1) KY 3491/Green Hills Road, a total of 1.506 miles. 2) KY 76/Neatsville-Knifley Road (Elkhorn Road), 2.303 miles, just west of Tucker Woods Road. 3) KY 706/Fairplay Road, from Eddie Compton Road to Jack Smith Road, 2.178 miles, and 4) KY 768/Glensfork Road, 1.763 miles from Union Church Road to KY 55 in Glensfork. Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener noted that the county road funds are from these sources: 1) Flex Funds this year, $260,316, from Motor Fuels Tax 2) Governor's Discretionary Funds, no set amount, but is distributed by the Governor, 3) Road and Municipal Aid, this year $350,000. The county also receives funding for one bridge per year, on an 80/20 matching basis. A bridge in the Fairplay/Gadberry area is being studied for the next bridge. Members of Adair Fiscal Court were attentive to Sheriff Harrison Moss, out of frame, to learn his opinion on forming a board to oversee the installation of NCIC equipment at the Adair 911 Center. The proposal to establish the board was presented by 911 Director Jason Upchurch. At present, Adair 911 gets NCIC information from the Kentucky State Police which, while quick to respond, can sometimes have delays of up to 15 minutes that can put a law enforcement official in a very dangerous position, not knowing whether the vehicle he or she has just stopped is occupied by a good citizen or a dangerous, even homicidal individual. The court voted unanimously to proceed with the establishment of a five member panel, including Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss, Columbia Police Cheif Jason Cross, Adair County Coroner Todd Akin, AC 911 Director Jason Upchurch, and Adair County Magistrate Sammy Baker.
