For many, it is the most awaited season: Redbud time in South Central Kentucky. Many years it is associated with Easter. This year, with Easter much earlier, they were quite as much in evidence as on year ago. These trees, above are ones we watch for annually - usually from Mountainview Drive. In the beginning stages of restoration work on this house, new owners Sybille and Jukka Tuuha went for a walk around their new village square and discovered Red Brick Studios. It happened that Sybille is a song writer and singer and Jukka is her biggest fan and encourager. The recording, pictured to the right of the house in this photo, is the result of a dream come true. The first release includes a song dedicated to first responders, especially those who pulled Sybille from an auto wreck, saving her life. Meet Ofc. Gunner, the newest full time member of the CPD 2018-04-02 - Parking lot, Police Department, City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Meet Ofc. Gunner, the police dog who is a full time member of the Columbia Police Department, assigned to officer John Dial. Gunner, 23 months old, is patrol certified. That means he is trained to find all five drug scents: Ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and meth amphetamine. Meth is said to be the biggest local problem related to drug addictions. Gunner will be able to search and find it. Gunner is also trained in officer protection, a safeguard for police officers. Gunner lives 24/7/365 with the Dial family, John and his sons. Ofc. Dial says that when Gunner is with family, he is just like any other family dog. Willard Parnell, retired Edmonton businessman, is holding the cane he custom made from a tobacco stick and used on his 91st birthday, April 1, 2018, when he made his way to the choir loft at Edmonton United Methodist Church to sing the choir. "You know," he said, "believe if Jesus himself had sung he the choir he would probably have used a walking stick just as humble as this one." He had driven, alone, to Columbia to eat at Betty's.
