Even today, little kids (especially the grandkids) are fascinated with the simple game of "Rooster Fighting," which takes place in three steps, and game is simplest scored 2-out-three victories: - 1 - Players prepare to hook violets and draw together - 2 - Engaged violets ready for countdown, "Ready. Set. Go!" - 3 - Scoring. The player who keeps her/his head wins! Some believe the result is simply a matter of careful selection of a sturdy stem. Others would remember that technique is more important, that either "Jumping the Gun" or executing the quickest pull on "Go" always wins. A player who "Jumps the Gun," is challenged immediately in the most civil of calls, "You cheated!!! You jumped the gun," with a physical fight ensuing. -ED WAGGENER.
