How to play Child's game of 'Rooster Fighting'

2018-05-04 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.

Even today, little kids (especially the grandkids) are fascinated with the simple game of "Rooster Fighting," which takes place in three steps, and game is simplest scored 2-out-three victories:
- 1 - Players prepare to hook violets and draw together
- 2 - Engaged violets ready for countdown, "Ready. Set. Go!"
- 3 - Scoring. The player who keeps her/his head wins!
Some believe the result is simply a matter of careful selection of a sturdy stem. Others would remember that technique is more important, that either "Jumping the Gun" or executing the quickest pull on "Go" always wins. A player who "Jumps the Gun," is challenged immediately in the most civil of calls, "You cheated!!! You jumped the gun," with a physical fight ensuing. -ED WAGGENER.
