Adair Fiscal Court members face tight budget
2018-05-09 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Magistrates Sammy Baker (District 3), left and Daryl Flatt (2), and Harold Burton (1) portrayed the overall mood of the Tuesday, May 8, 2018, regular session of Adair Fiscal Court. Baker and Flatt had just completed three days of budget discussions with Deputy Adair County Judge Executive Andrea Waggener, right, CJE Mike Stephens, standing right out of frame, and, across the room, Adair County Treasurer Melinda Quinn, trying to shoehorn in as many necessities the county needs in the face of an additional end of CJE's terms in Kentucky when, by state law, and administration has to have money in the till for the incoming administration. Consequently, the Court had to delay many worthy project decisions for the officials elected November 6, 2018, to take office the first of January 2019 and decide. - EW

Tight Adair Fiscal Court budget meant some requests delayed
2018-05-09 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Chief Terry Harvey, forward in photo, did receive fiscal court insurance aid grant of $2,500, already in the fiscal year budget at last night's meeting of the Adair County Fiscal Court, but he was delayed on his request for an increase in funds for insurance because of a tight county budget. Adair County Parks and Recreation Chair Cynthia Rowe, in yellow blouse, was also disappointed that the county is unable to go ahead with plans for a new floor at the Jim Blair Center. Others in the photo above, in no particular order, include Magisterial Candidates Ray Fluhr (4), Terry Sullivan (1), and Doug Campbell (2), Tiffany & Kasey Blue Kessler, Knifley Fire Chief C.R. Drake, Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss, Columbia editors Wes Feese of the Adair Progress and Adam Capps of the Community Voice, Duo-County Telecom's John Thompson, Tammy Campbell, animal shelter director, who received high praise from Magistrate Daryl Flatt for her leadership. Chief Harvey did report, in a pre-meeting interview, that the BAVFD's Annual Fish Fry/BBQ/Auction/Candidate Forum, held Saturday, May 5, 2018, set a 'second highest' record in attendance and fundraising. - EW
