They're small but perky little flowers lining many country lanes and byways in Kentucky. They called Fleabane, out of the belief this entry in Wikipedia says: Erigeron, "It appears to be derived from a belief that the dried plants repelled fleas [8] or that the plants were poisonous to fleas. Linda spotted this tree as we passed, discussed it and went too far to back up. As my policy is that we never go back, this was a "Go Back" op, even for me. After spending one half hour searching, I think it is a Big Leaf Magnolia. The distribution maps indicate Adair County would be on or near the very northern tip of its range. It appears either ready to flower or has just done so. If we can find the location again, we'll want to see it in bloom.
