Birds of KY: Robin chooses decorated headstone for nest - II

2018-05-26 - Adair County, KY - Photo By Darryl Smith.
"Earlier in that same day we had been at a cemetery in Adair county and when I was walking the rows this crazy-acting Robin kept swooping down on me. I kept moving and it stopped, but when I came back that way it started up again. I snooped around a little and found it's nest in the flowers on a headstone. I snapped a couple of quick pictures and then stayed away so it could return to the nest. Sometimes taking photos really is 'for the birds'." - DARRYL SMITH

Birds of KY: Killdeer in Russell Springs Cemetery protecting nest - I

2018-05-26 - Russell Springs Cemetery, Lakeway Drive, Russell Springs, KY - Photo by Darryl Smith.
"I enjoyed Joe Lynn Barbee's angry bird Killdeer photo. It jogged my memory of a similar picture I took a few years ago. We were in the Russell Springs City Cemetery taking pictures and I came upon a Killdeer nest in an old rotting stump. One of the parents did the "injured bird" act, hopping away from the nest dragging it's "broken" wing (it kept looking back to make sure I was following). I played along but doubled back to take a peek at the nest and there was another parent there still on guard duty and I got a picture of it in defensive mode." - DARRYL SMITH
