'My world was shattered' police widow Amy Ellis recalls

"At 31 years old, my world was shattered," said Amy Ellis, speaking, above, widow of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis, who was killed in the line of duty five years ago today. "We lost all our hopes and dreams. I was terrified and angry." She spoke Thursday during the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony, which honored the lives of five Kentucky officers who died in the line of duty. Ellis told the gathered crowd that she spoke to memorialize her husband - not just as an officer - but as the devoted, loving father and husband he was to her and their two sons. - Kelly Foreman

Pedestrian Safety Progress: No parking improves line of sight

The Pedestrian Crossing at the Public Square and Campbellsville Street is now safer with the completion of the "No Parking" zone, giving vehicles a better line-of-sight to watch for pedestrians stepping off the curb, crossing from the Dustin Warren law office building to the Flower Garden corner. It's a start, as Columbia gets serious about sidewalks and pedestrian safety - and importantly, business development in Downtown. - EW
