William Gimbel: The Robert Montgomery cemetery, Joppa, KY

"This particular cemetery started in brambles . . . Robert Montgomery came with his father. Frances Montgomery, in 1805, there were 72 in their party including slaves. Frances bought 2000 acres in Joppa and Ozark. He gave all of his children property and slaves. This was Robert's part. Robert set the ground aside for this cemetery. My family has cared for it through the generations. " - WILLIAM GIMBEL

The Memorial Day sky went through a rapidly changing repertoire Memorial Day, as if to remind us that, in Kentucky, if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes. This bright, wandering lonely cloud fleck skies, though, was a favorite, showing of the hopeful mood of brighter days ahead in memorial day colors of vivid red, white, & blue & gray granite. - EW
