Hailey supports economic development of blueberry crop

2018-06-10 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Mom Amy Smith Waggener.
Chef Hailey Waggener, 6, added a good dose of sugar to her berries at lunch yesterday. The blueberries are local to Edmonton. The strawberries are from off, but she decided to add them to her dish anyway. It's a tradition in our house to bring in fresh blueberries whenever we can in support of my home county, where the 1995 startup of this region's blueberry crop began. In 2003 ColumbiaMagazine.com ran the story at this link on Larry Martin and Jean Daniels startup of Metcalfe County's Bluegrass Blueberries with the question, 'could blueberries replace tobacco in the region?' In the years since then, they have worked with the University of Kentucky blueberry crop growth. - Linda Waggener

2018-06-10 - Tarters Chapel Cemetery, 4360 Milltown Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Tarter's Chapel Cemetery is 0.936 mile from the church which shares its name. This photo is taken parallel to Jersey Lane, the axis with the longest road frontage. Failed to ask while there, but now wonder if there's a local name for the tall knob twixt flag and silo. Paired photo. See: Tarter's Chapel Church - 3400 Milltown Road, Columbia, KY

Many churches and cemeteries by the same name share addresses or they are adjoining. Tarter's Chapel and Tarter's Chapel are almost a miles apart. The Cemetery is at 4360 Milltown Road, officially, but it actually shares its longer frontage on Jersey Lane . Paired photo. See: Tarter's Chapel Cemetery, 4360 Milltown Road, Adair Co., KY
