A Bug's World - Mantis in a leaf hammock?

2018-06-21 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This picture was snapped for the comforting sight of a weathered wooden fencepost and the identify the as yet unidentified plant, a pesticide survivor. But the more interesting element was the variety of insects on the plant, particularly beneath the second bloom from left. Looks a bit like a baby mantis in a hammock or cradle. - EW

Preliminary work is underway on Rollen Coomer Road Bridge

2018-06-21 - Johnson School Road, Gadberry-Fairplay, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Charles Marshburn, from the other side of the stream, sent a note, yesterday, June 20, 2018, asking if his neighbor's field had become "A Parking Lot for Old School Buses." After an intense interrogation, he sent a follow-up that the bus is an Adair County Road Department and that preliminary work on the Rollen Coomer Road Bridge is underway, inviting us to see for ourselves. This scene was captured after leaving. The bridge builders - the span is being built by the Adair County Road Department - were busy as beavers. Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens said he expects the bridge, in Magistrate Sammy Baker's 3rd District, to be completed in as little as four to six weeks. - EW

Wildflower Mystery ID 79372: Bloom joining trumpet vine

2018-06-21 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
You may have identified this one before. It's a beauty whether beneficial or not. These twins appeared to be either ready to open or were closing in their role illuminating orange day lilies. It's a hearty plant, having sustained a drenching of herbicide. If anyone can readily identify the plant, that would be great. - EW. Photo Wed 20 Jun 2018.

New boy at Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch

2018-06-20 - Greater Bliss, KY - Photo by Miss Victoria Pike of Miss Vickys Pampered Angus Ranch.
Pampered Angus has a new family member On Friday, June 15, 2018, at 2:15pm the Pampered Angus Ranch added a new family member. No name, yet, but we are working on that. This fine looking gentlemen is from Oak Hollow Angus Smiths Grove, KY, owned by Ken Lowe and family. He looks right handsome, with Miss Shannon’s Quick Lube in the background in New Columbia while he stands in the farming community of Greater Bliss. Sure is a hot one, here today, but I remember some mighty cold days we dreamed of hot weather like this. Happy Saturday from the girls. - Miss Vicky
