Epicurean Kentuckian: Injera
2018-06-29 - Queen of Sheba, 2804 Taylorsville Rd., Louisville, KY - Photo by Pen. A basket of Injera, "a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. Traditionally made out of teff flour, it is the national dish of Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, and Eritrea. It is central to the dining process in those cultures as bread is the most fundamental component of any meal." From: Injera at Wikipedia

Birds of Kentucky: Hawk identification needed
2018-06-29 - Louisville, KY - Photo by Pen. We spotted this guy doing pro-bono work at the Louisville Zoo, hanging around outside one of the exhibits. He appears to be a juvenile, maybe a Cooper's Hawk.

Birds of Kentucky: American Robins in the nest
2018-06-29 - Shelby Co., KY - Photo by Pen. A couple of robins, watching the world from the safety of the nest. Wikipedia says about young robins, "eggs hatch after 14 days, and the chicks leave the nest a further two weeks later. ... The adult male and female both are active in protecting and feeding the fledged chicks until they learn to forage on their own. The adult robin gives alarm calls and dives in a threatening manner towards creatures it considers potential predators, such as approaching cats, dogs and humans. The fledglings are able to fly short distances after leaving the nest. The wings of juvenile birds develop rapidly, and it only takes a couple of weeks for them to become proficient at flying."

'Horsing Around' In Adams County, Ohio (PART I)
2018-06-29 - Adams County, Ohio - Photo by Robert Ellis. I toyed with numerous captions for this pic since it appears the horses are acting a little goofy. However, a quick look at the pic and the viewer will quickly discern why all the "shenanigans"; it's due to the onslaught of a swarm of flies! Two of the horses were in the final stages of shaking their heads (notice their ears) and the horse on right is still in motion of the head shake. This pic was taken this past weekend while visiting a fellow photographer and friend in the Flemingsburg KY area. - ROBERT ELLIS. Paired Photo - Barn in Adams County, Ohio - HORSING AROUND PART II
