2018-06-30 - 2018 State Beta Convention - Photo by Dawn Baker, Beta Sponsor.
We have just received word that Maddie Harmon placed 9th in the nation in Division I Language Arts, at the 2018 Kentucky State Beta Convention. As a result, she has received a bid to the National Convention in Savannah, Georgia. A teammate, Trevor Smith, received a bid to the Nationals by placing 6th in the nation in Division II Social Studies. These are amazing accomplishments and we at ACHS are so proud of them.

Biggest, best produce FM2 today, Sat 30 Jun 2018

2018-06-30 - FM2 at Municipal Parking Lot, Campbellsville & Merchant Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
At 6:41amCT Sat 30 Jun 2018, many of the stalls at Farmers Market on the Square were completing preparations for the official opening 8am-1pmCT, interrupted by a few early birds who couldn't wait. The weather is gorgeous, but promises to get wickedly hot later today. Just a word to the wise that although supplies are bountiful, it's a good idea to get to the market before 1) They're out of those heirloom tomatoes, or 2) The heat gets them -- or you. Our first trip was a success. Got the two prettiest Big Boy tomatoes on the lot. Can't wait to taste them. There may not be time to post all the vendors inventories, but we're pedaling as fast as we can. Watch for more FM2 today to come! - EW

2018-06-30 - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Each day as the Nanwood Market store re-opening approaches, giant steps are being taken at their new location at 206 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Above, with the early morning sun and shadows, yesterday's Janes Painting Company's work was evident this morning. A Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting at 11amCT, Friday, July 6, 2018, has put the business on a demanding schedule to meet the deadline. - EW

There must be a poignant family story here

2018-06-30 - Cemetery in Adair County named for Americas Best Citizen - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
On a recent photo trip, a chance snap, a-we'll-come-back-later-for-the-facts outing, this lamb-capped marker stood out. There's a story here, and it's almost certainly written out by earlier researchers. We'd love it if they could share it. Oh, a hint, it's in a cemetery named for "America's Best Citizen." - EW

What can be done about the mass-a-cree of signs?

2018-06-30 - New Columbia, Adair County KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Assuming this is an incident accident, it is still a too often seen scene around Adair County. In too many instances, missing signs are the result of opportunistic miscreants, who have created closely 'work which should not have had to be did'. Any ideas on how to counter the dangerous practice of mutilating, stealing, and destruction of the signs. Singaporean measures aren't called for - this is America - and some here remember WWJD. There must be an answer. - EW
