FM 2 Sat 2018 - A record setter, in some ways

2018-07-07 - FM2 at Municipal Parking Lot, Campbellsville & Merchant Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Today's Sat 7 Jul 2018 was a huge success. Even the weather cooperated. Trilby Vance, at FM2 with husband Sonny Vance, said that before departing northern climes of Cane Valley this morning, said that she knew it would be a good day when she walked out and felt a gentle breeze and was sure the trip to Columbia for FM 2 would be a good one. As it turned out, the event was a huge success. Some vendors reported record sales, making the return home a lot lighter. When this photo was taken at nearly noon, Bro. Glenn LaFond can be seen at right leaving the market. The Hungry Kids Cafe, had their best day ever, Lois Cunningham said, selling out at 11:30amCT! All vendors reporting seeing many new faces and finding new customers. - EW/LW

Scenic Adair Co, KY: 'Glistening' of 6 Jul 2018 cool down picture

2018-07-07 - Road to The Barn at Cedar Grove - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This picture is posted for a psychological cool down when you need it. Life is good in that you never know everything. We only knew we love Adair County's byways through tree tunnels as much as anything in the world. The lanes to The Barn at Cedar Grove have so many, but coming back from a peek at the idyllic setting, toward the afternoon sun, every tree in the rain offered 'glistenings' of awesome beauty; the sight served a psychological 'think cool,' a coping mechanism Mr. James Ennis taught in Metcalfe County HS before the time of air conditioning. - EW

A city view out back, new windows let in the light

2018-07-07 - 206 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Even the windows at the back of the newly restored Nanwood Market on the Columbia Public Square provided entertainment for guests at the Friday, June 6, 2018 ribbon cutting ceremony. Light was pouring into what will be the work room for the owners. The view looks across the city parking lot toward the historic Field house at left, Kenneth and Sandy Janes' home on Fortune Street, Doug and Monica Janes' home on the corner of Reed and Fortune Streets, Duo-County Telephone's maintenance building in the center, a bit of Sav-A-Lot Grocery behind the big Crepe Myrtle bushes, the former Ford Garage/Madison Square Building now owned by Connie and Junior Stotts of Stotts Construction and the back of the EDA-Tourism-Chamber of Commerce building on the right.

Wildflowers of KY: CREP field legacy pink coneflower

2018-07-07 - Along an N. Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
A single bright pink coneflower dominates a field which appears to have, at one time, been 'a CREP field,' under the USDA Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP). Just a few years ago, CREP fields were the talk of armchair farmers, and lunch hour destinations for daytripper townies who marveled at the beauty of the fields. - EW
