Robert Ellis: Yellow Garden Spider - Argiope - at Hillsboro, KY

2018-07-08 - Hillsboro, KY - Photo by Robert Ellis.
Yellow Garden Spider at Hillsboro, KY - This pic was taken last July in the Hillsboro area of Kentucky. This spider was behind the house where I was staying . It took three attempts, over a two hour period, to get the sun position and lighting just right for the photo. I used the "Macro" feature on my lens at about 2 inches away from the garden spider. The spider was nestled in among some flowers that added to the dramatic colors of the photo. - Robert Ellis (c) Robert Ellis Wood Working.com.

Beanpole Willis wrote about all things of interest in the 80s

2018-07-08 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Bonnie Willis Smith.
Hudson (Col. Beanpole) Willis is remembered here by his sister Bonnie who provided this keepsake, and by many who recall reading his weekly writings about all things that sparked his interest in the 1980s. He documented happenings, current and past, and included his own thoughts as in the lead sentence here, "We are always having a flashback in this column. We should stop and think how good this old country of ours is. Even though at this time we sometimes think it is going to bust wide open."
Comments -
  1. Dave Rosenbaum - Recall's Col. Pole's profound philosophical saying

The Dillon Drug Co., advertised in the accompanying image from the July 23, 1923 paper, had succeeded the young firm of Russell & Taylor (Dr. C.M. Russell & Herb Taylor) not quite a year earlier. Mr. G.W. Dillon, the owner, was a registered pharmacist, as was his son, Mr. Rich Dillon. - Jim (Note: - Interest in the 200 Quadrant, the Southwest Corner of Downtown Columbia, has been the focus of interest with the Grand Re-Opening of Nanwood Market next door to this building. Mr. Rich Dillon's wife, Bertha Dillon played a large role in the early days of Reed Bros. Insurance company, which occupied upstairs offices in the block for many decades in the 20th Century).
