When I was a little girl, before the official dolls were available to me, young ears of corn, like these pictured, made perfect Barbies. The long blond corn silks were brushed back, eyes, eyebrows, nose and lips were colored on and suddenly there was Barbie. The shape of the body wasn't the Barbie-extreme, but with plenty of imagination, it worked fine.
