The Columbia-Adair County Utilities District Board of Commissioners took steps at its July 12, 2018 regular second-Thursday meeting to move ahead with plans for a new office/storage building. Commissioner Mike Newton introduced the idea, saying that he was made aware of possible grant money for the project. The building, as in previous plans, would be on a lot the utility owns in Holladay Place, near the Raider Bob million gallon storage tank. The proposal was unanimously approved. Above, around the table clockwise, are Chairman Wid Harris, Commissioner Doug Sapp, Commissioner Junior Brown, Jeff Wooldridge, General Manager Lenny Stone, Commissioner Mike Newton, and Vice Chairman David Jones. At left, seated, is Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss. Also present were Board Attorney Marshall Loy, not shown, and members of the local media. CJE Mike Stephens joined the group later.

Since the first appearance of glyphosate resistant palmer amaranth and waterhemp, above, in Adair County, each species has spread further throughout the county. Feedstuffs, machinery, and wildlife all play a role in the spread of these weeds. It is extremely important that these weeds are identified and controlled early. If left to grow, these weeds become uncontrollable and forfeiture of the crop is inevitable. - Nick Roy
