Wildflowers of KY - Purple Crown Vetch
2018-07-15 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. In the month of June, whenever Purple Crown Vetch sways in spring breezes, I think of Addie Turner Leftwich, Mom's Mom, and Mom Genice Marcum, and Metcalfe County, KY. Both were examples of an appreciation for purple in all its shades, especially lavender, for all wildflowers, and for fencerows filled with potential bouquets. - LW

Adair 1st responders handle dangerous roadway oil spill quickly
2018-07-15 - North side Campbellsville Street & Fairground Street Intersection, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Saturday, 12:52pmCT - A quick thinking motorist who saw a vehicle slide through a red light initiated an immediate response effort involving law enforcement, the Kentucky State Highway Department, and others which efficiently secured the intersection and rerouted motorists. From call-in to a return to full use of the intersection took a multi-agency team of perhaps a dozen or more individuals to complete, leaving only the clean up of the absorbent for later - and finding the vehicle which releases the oil. The roads are Kentucky Highway Department maintained, and KHD policies now levy cost of clean up to the responsible party. - EW

Spartan Obstacle Course, a lot like basic training
2018-07-15 - Ft. Knox, KY - Photo by Pen. Grandson Graham Waggener took part in Spartan Honor Series Obstacle Course at Ft. Knox, KY on Saturday, July 14, 2018. From a look at the obstacles the participants paid to go through, it looks a lot like Army Basic Training, maybe more grueling, though there was no live ammo overhead, just barbed wire to encourage staying down and crawling. - Granddad, EW

Wildflower Mystery ID 79372: Circled Star, five petal blue flower
2018-07-15 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. A charming little blue flower, Garden-of-Edeningly dubbed "Circled star, five petal, blue flowers on tall stem," for an internet search was rewarded with suggestions but no clear answer. Anybody know, a Carl Linnaeus system name? A better Garden-of-Eden name to start search. Forever tyro botanists and practicing Luddites who don't want another app intruding on life need to know. - EW
