Heaven's Rays beam down in hillside forest
2018-07-15 - Along a South Central KY byway - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The road rises to meet you in this great outdoor cathedral powerfully illuminated by midday sunlight on one of South Central Kentucky's many - never enough - tree tunnels. The Creator's dappling and shadow patterns makes the column of light on the left a likely sign of some great theological statement. Each traveler can draw his or her own certainties from there. - LW/EW

Countdown to School Start, 26 days and buses ready!
2018-07-15 - Adair County Schools Transportation Complex, Col. Casey Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Citizens are now thinking of returning to classes in Adair County Public Schools. The buses are ready for students' return, lined up in a precise military order, ready to roll if called into an emergency situation tomorrow, Transportation Director David Jones conveyed recently. School starts in 26 days, on Thursday, August 9, 2018, for students. The campus is being maintained as though the first day of school were already here. Maintenance on the campus -a show place -sets a high standard for the rest of the county. - EW

Road not taken: Corn patterns lead on to Russell County
2018-07-15 - Eastern Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Riding down a country road in Adair County offers many opportunities requiring decisions to turn, or stay on the straight and narrow - if there is such a thing on a country road in Kentucky. The photographer heeded the signs in the corn and headed straight ahead, not taking "Ivy Lane," Adair County CR# 1897, 0.186 m. Instead, we took the road ahead, which leads to the choices of all manner of wondrous sights by staying straight ahead at the "T" into Russell County or hanging a right onto Acree Road, staying in Adair.

Picture Postcard: Central Business District, Downtown Nell, KY
2018-07-15 - Adair County, Just East of Metcalfe County, KY line - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The Nell store is a travel magnet for anyone who likes to imagine what was once here. Most will conjure up a sight of dozens, even hundreds, gathering on Saturdays at the old country store. They could imagine a broad mix of shoppers on foot, on horseback, in horse drawn wagons, and early to later motor vehicles. The weathering patterns, colors, and vines are visual artists' dream subject matter. Hopefully, maybe, it is the subject of an author's next book. - EW

Wildflowers of KY - Purple Crown Vetch
2018-07-15 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. In the month of June, whenever Purple Crown Vetch sways in spring breezes, I think of Addie Turner Leftwich, Mom's Mom, and Mom Genice Marcum, and Metcalfe County, KY. Both were examples of an appreciation for purple in all its shades, especially lavender, for all wildflowers, and for fencerows filled with potential bouquets. - LW
