Solving home needs in Adair County, in big and small ways

2018-07-20 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Maggie Coleman advocates for those in need of housing in big and small ways through her work for J.O.Y. Ministries. Above at the July 10, 2018 meeting of Adair Fiscal Court, she advocated for a modest proposal to involve Adair County and City of Columbia Law Enforcement and 911 center in small project aimed at providing clean, comfortable temporary housing for the homeless in Adair County, with a solution costing less than $20,000. On a grander scale, deserving Adair County family is in need of a home; for that effort, she and others in the Paz-Holley Project are over half way toward their goal of $108,000. Now many, seeing that the project is soon to be a reality, are putting the fundraising effort into overdrive with some major gifts of over $1,000 each. - EW

Stacey Wilson, at left, says, "if 40 businesses give a thousand dollars each, we'll buy this house and have those ten children in it before Thanksgiving!" She made her gift from Community Medical and her challenge is accepted by ColumbiaMagazine.com as we join the business effort today. With her donation presented to Paz Holley project chairman Rick Wilson, center, and Marian Grant, Paz-Holley fundraiser committee member at right, the remaining balance is now $40,000. Since March 12, 2018, in just 120 days, churches, individuals and organizations have brought this fund to over the halfway point up to $68,868. This puts the total needed at $40,000 to buy the house, valued at $318,000, for $108,000. - LW
