First Day of Adair County School District Preregistration goes well
2018-07-25 - Adair County Elementary School (ACES), 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The First Day of Pre-registration appears to go really well when this photo was taken just after 4pmCT looking over the big parking lot at the back of ACES. A few parking spots were continuously available, and parents were coming and going with ease. When we get some stats from Dean Robbie Harmon, we'll post; for now, parents are reminded that the second and last announced day of pre-registration will be 12pmNoon to 6pmCT, Thursday, July 26, 2018, at ACES, 870 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. - EW

Nifty photo of flying Asian Carp from KY Fish & Wildlife
2018-07-25 - Kentucky Lake - Photo from Kentucky Fish & Wildlife. A fisherman is either tossing an Asian Carp to a receiver on shore or vice versa, in one of the Asian Carp containment efforts. The fish, while a delicacy now being exported to the Far East from factory processors in Kentucky and is a somewhat pricey entree in upscale restaurants, is an invasive species wreaking havoc with the $1.3 billion sports fish/tourism economy.

Nap time for new arrivals at Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch
2018-07-25 - Miss Vickys Pampered Angus Ranch, Adair County, KY - Photo by Victoria Browning Pike. Babies taking a nap: "While filling sprayer, for a cocklebur extermination, I’m watching two precious baby Pampered Angus enjoying a sunny afternoon in the Flatwoods community. Not a care in the world or an idea that New Columbia is right over the rise. . . then back to work - sprayer is full once again. Cockelburs to be eradicated before they get in the girls tails." - Victoria Browning Pike, (Multi-tasking at Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Farm, while plotting to get the perfect venue for a big Democratic Party rally coming up, sharing the idyllic life in Greater Bliss/The Flatwoods/New Columbia, the Double Rainbow capitol of the world.)

Epicurean Kentuckian: FM2 Onion, Diced Chicken & Farm fresh Eggs
2018-07-24 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Just two easy to clean skillets were needed to make this dish, and one was used to coarse dice the last of an Adair County grown tomato - the real star of the start of the day. Ingredients, besides tomatoes: Sweet-as-apples Black Dog Farm onions. diced chicken, swiss and cheddar cheese, porch side basil and a sprinkle of five sprigs of rosemary from Coview Farms plant, brought on cooked shrimp, farm gathered eggs from a friend who has a friend who is foundering the friend with eggs, dried onion for flavor, flax meal for flavor and fiber, two tablespoons of whipping cream, real dairy butter, and very tiny amounts of spices: Cayenne pepper, curry powder, coarse black pepper, basil flakes, turmeric & paprika. The coffee? Good enough. Not up to Patty's, but good enough. It tasted better on Noritake china from Lany Bray, in Columbia, new 49 years ago. No match for the lamb roast from FM2 Maury Lewis had us drooling over, but poor-folks delicious. We gave a thanks for the Creator, life in Columbia, our well mannered, grateful cat Blue, J.O.Y. Ministries and all the things which make us wonder why any South Central Kentuckian would live anywhere else. - EW

Heavy rains from Friday night's storm revisited
2018-07-24 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. I thought this massive rain, from among the photos of the Friday evening storms, was worth sharing for the record even though we've gotten back to good summer weather. The July 19, 2018 storms that brought this kind of rain totals, hail as big a golf balls, damaging winds, thunder and lightening, were plenty of storms for now, thank you. - LW
