Paz-Holley Project, one step at a time to $73,000

2018-07-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Marian Grant.
The Paz-Holley (P-H) Project reached $73,000 July 26, 2018, leaving just $35,000 to achieve its goal of $108,000 and help the family of twelve into a home of their own that fits their number. Looking at the job to be done from a business perspective when $40,000 was needed, Community Medical Services owner Stacey Wilson announced a challenge to other businesses, "What if 40 businesses - or individuals within those businesses - give a thousand dollars from that company? We can buy this house and have those ten children in it before Thanksgiving!" She made her own gift, announced with her challenge, kicked off at 8amCT July 20, 2018. Marian Grant, a member of the staff, built this graph that shows a house at a glance where the fundraising effort has been in red and how close they are getting to the top. - LW

Best we could get of that big moon last night with a cellphone - don't know all the details, just know that it was big! A better shot, with a bit of science, would be appreciated. Taken 8:52pmCT, Thursday, July 26, 2018. - EW

Changing topography of Green River Commerce Park

2018-07-27 - Development Drive, looking west, Green River Commerce Park, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbia, KY.

Site preparation at Green River Industrial Park has been moving steadily ahead. The entrance from Campbellsville Road, has been leveled to as prairie-land-flat as Greg Greer's Greer Brothers Construction of Knifley, KY moved a pretty good chunk of Adair County from the right side of the road to the left. Now that the month long project is mostly done, ATS Mobility/Wilkerson Transport plans to build another manufacturing facility, which may see the companies' employment increasing to 50 people. Right now, employment is maintained in the 41-45 range. ATS Mobility converts Toyotas, Fords, Ram/Dodge/Chrysler vehicles for assisted transportation for patients needing wheelchair lifts. The company recently purchased additional acreage in the park. The biggest challenge now, owner Rob Wilkerson says, is finding enough workers to fill openings. - EW

Shannon Sexton, at left, and I enjoyed the first event at the new Black Stallion Steakhouse in Columbia, the soft opening, getting ready for the business to be ready to open to the public on Monday, July 30, 2018. The new business is among our neighbors, my farm across the road and Shannon's Adair Kwik Lube inside the Pinewood Center. - - Vicky Browning Pike
