Campers after a long hard day of service

J.O.Y. Ministries gave a HUGE shout out to Columbia United Methodist Church for hosting a week of camp that ended Friday, July 27, 2018. This is the seventh mission week. CUMC allows use their church for worship, cooking meals and/or staying overnight for six of the past seven years. Among the campers of the week, doing service works for people who needed help, were: Alex Edwards, Sidney Foster, Carlie Causey, Emily Kelsay, Jenna Rodgers and Morgan Spoon.

Fourth District Magistrate Perry Reeder read the Fiscal Court's Personnel Report which included recommendations to possibly hire two new employees - one was - and to give pay raises for work on the Rollen Coomer Road Bridge project, which was done, retroactive to the start of the project. The latter won on a 5-2 vote, with Magistrates Daryl Flatt (District 2) and Billy Dean Coffey (5) dissenting. - EW

Beautiful Angel Trumpet plant blooming in Russell Springs

Brugmansia, or Angel Trumpets as they are called around here, make for impressive gardens. The blooms can grow up to 8-10 inches in length and hang straight down as shown in this grower's photo from her Russell Springs garden. She wrote, "This is first bloom of the season on my Angel Trumpet plant. Photo was taken July 22, 2018." - Kaye Harmon
