Epicurean Kentuckian: Meal, eccentric pragmatic locavore style
2018-07-30 - Quaint peasant kitchen, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Actually, a breakfast for supper. The star the plate may be the obvious local farmers markets fresh tomatoes or slices of sweet-as-apples onion, or the back porch basil hand raised from plant from FM2, or the farm fresh eggs. But it's not doctrinaire local. Wasn't practical to get the sweet pickled ginger, mushrooms (though it ought to be), or the horse radish mayo, or frozen sweet peas and dry onion for the omelet, but it worked for a quick, very tasty meal, made in good conscience as a practicing, if not dogmatic locavore. Shouldn't get anyone shunned or churched. It was considered healthy, and we may be able to give a calorie reckoning, soon.- EW

Come to Columbia - Where all our concrete swans are gussied up
2018-07-30 - Fountain Plaza - One Hundred Quadrant, Public Square, Down Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. When you Come to Columbia on business, for sightseeing, to solve the mystery of where the Coffey Building was located, or for culture & enlightenment, a two-tenths mile promenade around the Public Square has all manner of delights. In Red Geranium season, the concrete swans - 'Swawns' the late Dr. Steve Aaron used to call them - are gussied up with plantings by the Adair County Garden Club at this time. Remember to work in a visit to Downtown when you come to the great cultural event coming one week from today - when Darlene Campbell lectures on DNA at the monthly Adair County Genealogical Society meeting at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, at organizations 5pmCT/6pmET, August 6, 2018 meeting. Downtown Columbia is a photographer's dream - don't forget to bring your camera, and don't be surprised if you spot a famous picture taker or two as you stroll. - EW
