June Parson was the last to file for the Columbia City Council. She drew, predictably after all the other slots were taken, ballot position #4. Wildflowers of KY - Jewelwood 'Hedge' near M. Burton Canyon
2018-08-17 - Raymond Powell Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Jewelweed - both kinds, yellow and orange, grow in a natural hedge almost a trim as an English royal manor's Boxwood one, lines the Raymond Powell Road, the continuation of L. Hancock Road, after it passes over the 'dry bridge' on Sulphur Creek in the Murrell Burton Canyon there. The picture is only a proof of concept. Should have taken the hedge, but it's not easy to stop along this deep forested roadway. It is worth fixing or buying sandwich and a cold drink and taking a noon time picnic know-your-county-better tour and observing many wildflowers found along the way. - EW

Adair Farmers Market - A portrait in dedication
2018-08-17 - Adair County Farmers Market, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Gale Cowan, Deputy to Marketing Agent Beth Cowan, for the Kings of Corn .
Gale Cowan writes, "The kings of corn are very dedicated," with this picture of her father, David Burris. The plural "kings" was used because the other King of Corn, Commissioner Junior Brown, was on a Good Samaritan mission dedicated to helping his fellow man. Mr. Brown is very apt to be at the market when not digressing for a good cause - helping legislate for water, sewer, and natural gas pipelines, tracking down fugitives in the Portland neighborhood, or missing too many meals out doing good deeds. - CM
