Day Trip: Sadness at sight of fire victim - Hugh Squires store

2018-08-19 - KY 61, Green County, KY, just north of Adair County, KY line - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
We missed the story on this fire, which appears to have occurred rather recently, maybe concurrently with a fire at a residential building immediately south of this marking place so many have used for three quarters of a century. The Hugh Squires Store was a memorable building. Photo Saturday, August 18, 2018. We hope to add more details to this information as known - will appreciate comments and clarification. - EW

2018-08-19 - Cave Ridge-New Liberty Road, looking south over Metcalfe County farm land - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Not many words are needed when you have a vista like this one, enjoyed from one of the highest points on Highway 1413, the Cave Ridge-New Liberty Road in Metcalfe County, looking back southward toward 200-year-old Edmonton, KY. This road connects with the Knob Lick - Wisdom Road to motor on to Highway 70. - LW

Wildflowers of KY: Pretty Paired Weeds - Golden Jewell & Iron

2018-08-19 - Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
A good downpour along the way only made these little blossoms shine more brightly on the roadside between Cave Ridge just outside Edmonton and the suburbs of Knob Lick on Highway 70. Yellow gold Jewellweed (we think) and deep purple Ironweed made for a pretty roadside bouquet. - LW

Corrections, clarifications, comments:
  1. Sharon Whitehurst - Yellow flower is Partridge Pea, not Jewelweed
