Sea shells observed through eyes of 7-year-old discoverer
2018-08-22 - Roberta D. Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (aka Granddad). A collection of shells in the lobby of the dining hall at Lindsey Wilson College caught the eye of our seven-year-old granddaughter Matilda Ann. Having just entered second grade, Tillie is reading and sounded out the words labeling the names of each of the shells within her height range. Over the years, it has been one thing to pass by and think how nice the collection is at a passing glance. It was quite another - I'd call it pure joy - experiencing the shells up close through the eyes of this young discoverer. PS: There was no pageant, Tillie wore her tiara "just because." - LW (aka Mema)

Seasonal show of nature, Hurt Street Curve, Columbia, KY
2018-08-22 - Hurt Street shortcut Curve, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Roseland Plantation, in eyeshot of the Historic Adair County Courthouse, three blocks from Downtown, offers a fleeting glimpse of a well tended home for horses and a fence line where leaving well enough alone is yielding highly memorable moments. Someone identified the spray of white flowers saddling the fencerow last year, and we'll post that soon as we find it or someone sends a reminder. A hint of ironweed in the left is just a portent of ironweed glory to come. Most importantly, though, in the shadows of the barn door are new equine neighbors who will be giving friendly greetings to shortcutters and other passers-by. - EW. Photo Tue 22 Aug 2018.
