Wildflowers of KY - Swamp Milkweed, Sulphur Creek Bottomland

2018-08-26 - Taylor Mill Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This week is the first time I've seen Swamp Milkweed, a favorite feast for butterflies, in this pretty pink hue. Usually, Milkweed is spotted in its flaming orange color. It adds a really effective foreground for the Joe Pye Weed and Iron Weed which could be seen in a larger photo. - LW. (Photo Fri 24 Aug 2018, in the evening.)

Turnovers plague CU Football in 16-10 loss to Faulkner

2018-08-26 - Finley Stadium, 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Brett Pierce, CU Athletics..
Campbellsville and Faulkner combined for nine turnovers, while Campbellsville had five – two interceptions and three fumbles. Faulkner scored 16 of its points in the final 3:44 of the second quarter to win the 2018 season opener. A combined nine turnovers turned what could have been one of the best NAIA matchups to start the 2018 season into a sloppy offensive game and No. 24 Faulkner University took advantage of scoring seven points on five Campbellsville miscues to upend the Tigers, 16-10. The game was witnessed by a huge crowd, with 2,000 in attendance. Photo by Brett Pierce, CU Athletics.

The sign on top designates this building as the W.F. Toops & Co. 1911. In the 50s it was (or a building close by) which housed Midway Hardware, a wholesale distributor which sold to hardware and general stores in a wide area around Horse Cave. Midway distributed tobacco spears including those manufactured by E.P. Waggener & Sons, Columbia, KY. Ed remembered making deliveries there with his dad. - LW

2018-08-26 - Downtown Munfordville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This Civil War mural graces one of the older buildings in historic Munfordville, KY. It has the date 1861, and it advertises "Civil War Days second weekend in September." Sounds like a festival may be coming up. - LW
