Deep maroon Coxcomb blooming on Fairground Street, Columbia

2018-08-31 - Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
The flower is Coxcomb and this dark maroon color is the most common of several colors that can be found. It is a late summer to early fall bloomer and it has the appearance of velvet in texture. Its shape calls to mind a human brain on a stick, or some say it looks like a deep red cauliflower. Either way, it's a stunning flower. - LW
