Daryl Flatt: Surely there will be enough outrage to change this

2018-09-04 - Bypass & Burkesville, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Adair County Magistrate Daryl Flatt (District 2), a veteran Adair County Ambulance Employee, right, asked CJE Michael Lee Stephens what was on everybody's mind today, "Isn't this enough to get enough outrage to get something done about this?" Judge Stephens was on phone during the clearance of the crash scene, insisting that the State do something, immediately. "I don't care if they have to shut down the road," he said, and, this afternoon he seemed to be getting positive responses. - EW

2018-09-04 - Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass & Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross, foreground, with Columbia Fire Department Chief Mike Glasgow, right, and Columbia/Adair County Fire Department Public Information Officer Donald Hare, left, have eyes east as an Air Evac helicopter prepares to take off from the scene of the second collision in five days at the crossing. A front end loader was being used to remove debris from the scene. At right, cab directed north on Burkesville Street, is one of the vehicles involved in the crash, a propane gas hauler. Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, demanding immediate action at the intersection, from a four-way stop to shutting the road down entirely, says he was told there was need for more study. He responded, he said, by telling the individual, "The time for study is long past. When it takes a front end loader to remove a vehicle, the time to study is long over." His sentiment is resonating throughout the community. - EW

Air Evac lifts off with victim of crash - Tue 4 Sep 2018 - Burkesville & Bypass

2018-09-04 - Veterans Memorial Bypass, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
There were prayers and a sense of relief that everything was being done which should be done for the injuried driver in one of the vehicles involved in the second midday crash at the intersection of the Columbia Veterans Bypass at Burkesville Street/Burkesville Road. Local officials and citizens, studying the situation are insisting on immediate action, and, already, local leaders, law enforcement and first responders are finding commonality in times of day, the direction of travel of vehicles going through the intersection, and are suggesting solutions, "Whatever it takes," they say. - EW

Whimsical Adair County, KY: Homage to Dr. Seuss

For the moment, maybe we might as well see the humor in it. The battered and bent yield sign, past its prime, still perseveres and does its duty. - EW
