Kentucky Color: Cars to infinity

2018-09-13 - Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, President, Homeplace on Green River.

Cars to infinity
Commemorating HGR's Fall Festival, 2018
Just wanted to share
This one and only
But not at all lonely,
Fall Festival picture.
Maples in the yard
And Chestnuts, too
Make shade on cue
For those hot and tired.
Grass there is aplenty,
With clouds dark or gray.
Yes, one might even say
There are cars to infinity.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Quick Breakfast, FM Fresh + leftovers

2018-09-13 - An EK Kitchen in Kentucky .
Maybe it ought to be called Make-do Kentucky International Fusion. International from the Northern European idea that cold meats for breakfast have their own special appeal, and Mexican influence that everything from meats to desserts are better with jalapeno peppers. Other items are a mostly FM-sourced fresh tomato, cucumber, diced tomato, fresh onion, dried onion, and jalapeno breakfast salad with rice vinegar - from a bottle, not a plastic packet - seasoned with sea salt, and black & red ground pepper, and a few cold green beans from Big Black Dog Farm leftover. An homage to Cajun boiler: the microwave re-warmed new potato, with melted butter we hope came from an Adair County dairy farm. The egg was a two minute, one egg omelet influenced by a trip a family member took to Hawaii, and introduced us to the great combination of the simplest egg dish paired with cucumbers, with only vinegar for a condiment. It was quick and a neat nibbling breakfast. Most of all - cheaper. - EW

Tank or Tankette: Cat morphs into menacingly large forms

2018-09-13 - Down on Town Creek, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Even here, this cat citizen of Columbia appears larger than it is. On first sighting, from 30 yards, it appeared to be a large groundhog, then maybe something of an unknown species. Only when downloading a picture series, was it evident the visitor was a beautiful cat, immediately thought to be Mama Cat, a regular feeder. But the personality is different, and there was a collar, which Mama Cat does not have. Fairly or unfairly, the cat has been dubbed "Tank," or if of another gender, "Tankette," whenever "it" honors home with an entertaining visit, or a share of food, if desired. - EW
