Huge Homecoming crowd turns out for winning football game

Wrapping up the second annual book fair in Columbia

Organizers Mike Watson and Pamela Hoots reflected on a good day as the second annual Adair Area Book Fair wrapped up Saturday, October 6, 2018. Many local and regional authors offered books on many subjects from local history and genealogy to fiction to inspirational, to poetry, to how-to, to children's literature, and nearly every subject in between. The event was sponsored by the Adair County Public Library, Adair County Genealogical Society, and the Adair Heritage Association.

Barren County Courthouse steeple in the recent rains

The courthouse is surrounded by flowers on each light pole and farmers market tents on the lawn. On this day heavy rains pressed down on the red begonias in the hanging flower pots.

Pam Shearer joins board of Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center
 2018-10-06 - 901 Hudson Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Andrea Waggener. A board of volunteers works with the director leading the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center in Columbia. Pam Shearer, standing at left, was appointed by Fiscal Court to the board and will take over the duties of secretary as Linda Waggener, right, finishes two-years of service and rotates off the board. Jamie Hadley, not pictured, has also been appointed to the board and will begin his service in November. Seated are Chair Cynthia Rowe, left, and Vice Chair Jelaine Harlow, at right. In back from left are Shearer, Greg Caldwell, Steven Baker, director Lisa Handy and Waggener. The park is jointly owned by the city and county and has been making gradual improvements each month over the past few years. The next projects budgeted for will be ceiling lights and new floor inside the building. Volunteers are always needed and the first Wednesday at 5pmCT monthly meetings are open to the public.

Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center at sunset

More and more people are using the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center for walking on the newly paved track, the ball fields and the indoor building for activities and meetings. This photo was made at sunset recently when the playground was full and walkers were giving the track a good workout.
