Abandoned Kentucky: Washington County (Tom's Place)

2018-10-31 - Washington Co., KY - Photo by Bill Badgett.
Bill writes, "I was heading home from Bradsfordville and took the back roads through Washington County. The sun was setting and as I was passing by the ole Tom Graves homestead, I glanced at it like I've done so many other times in the past, but it made me think: That old place has seen far more sunsets than I ever will."

Local businesses are the backbone of our economy and that is why the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce puts an emphasis on local trade each holiday season. On a dollar-for-dollar basis, the local economic impact of independently owned businesses is significantly greater than that of national chains. Birds of Kentucky: On the dangers of birdwatching

2018-10-31 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen.
I saw Oklahoma at some point in my youth, and now I find it impossible to see a photo that includes both ducks *and* geese without getting Rodgers and Hammerstein's Surrey with the Fringe on Top started in my head.

If reading this has started Surrey in your head, recent research suggests that a possible cure for this problem is to listen to the song all the way to the finish. Since playing it publicly risks giving the song to someone else, here's an excellent cover by Miles Davis, sans lyrics, that might do the trick: YouTube: Surrey with the Fringe on Top.
