Meadow Hill Inn menu, 1947

After a two-day open house, Meadow Hill Inn opened for business seventy-one years ago this past spring -- Saturday, April 5, 1947 -- and immediately became the go-to place of Adair County. The attached menu image appeared several weeks later, in the June 25, 1947 edition of the News.

Cardinal rule - get out the bird food before snow comes

This big red boy paused long enough to nod a reminder to get the bird feeders filled up for the weekend since we have snow in the weather predictions. And no, fellow council member Craig Lasley, this is not a sign that I'm taking sides between UofL and UK. Notice I ran a photo of a blue cat earlier this week and that was also not a sign of loyalty to a particular Kentucky team. I stay squarely on the fence between family members and friends who keep the rivalry going strong! - LW

Saying goodbye to the old Meadow Hill Inn
 2018-12-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. The old Meadow Hill Inn that burned a few weeks ago at the corner of Frazier and Burkesville Streets in Columbia is being leveled this morning. A backhoe is pushing block walls and brick chimneys into what was once the basement.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

A stop by the Adair County Courthouse Annex found a huge Christmas tree in the entryway beside the wall marker declaring the 1992 opening of the building. Richard Lee Walker was the Judge Executive; Pam Smith was Deputy CJE; Ray Hutchison was the County Attorney Lynn McLean was Treasurer. Magistrates in 1992 were: Treva Downey Ballou, Lowell W. Goodin, Tony Loy, Wid Harris, Russell Guy Perkins, Joe Rogers and Fred Sexton.

Working the annual Jaycees Radio Auction to help others
 2018-12-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Amanda Davis. The annual Adair County Jaycees radio auction fundraiser is underway again tonight, December 6, 2018, from 6-9pmCT. Items that have been donated are being auctioned to the highest call-in bidders and proceeds will be used to help families at Christmas with food and toys. Some of those working last night at the start of the auction, answering phones and running bids to the ones on the radio and announcing were Jamie Hadley, Dan Held, Adam Roy, Cameron Cox, Sara Davis, Becky Brockman, Anthony Brockman, Marc Evans, Jason Stotts, Jennifer Carter and Marshall Judd.
