New year, new leadership. Mayor Pam Hoots presided over Monday night's Columbia City Council Meeting, her first since taking office December 30, 2018. Included in the agenda were the Mayor's Announcements, always exciting to hear one's new vision after they are sworn in. Fading grandeur in Spencer County

2019-01-10 - Spencer Co, KY - Photo by Pen.
There are a number of grand old buildings around Central Kentucky that are slowly fading away, like the now-gone hotel at Sulphur Well, or the brick building behind the trees at the corner of the bypass and Hwy 68 just outside of Lebanon, KY. Every time I pass them, I wish for more time to find out about the history of them.

This house sits high on a hill right on Hwy 44, just outside of Taylorsville, Kentucky. It currently marks the entrance to the Taylorsville RV Park and Boat Storage, but it looks like it probably tells a story as George Kolbenschlag eloquently put it recently. --Pen

Taylorsville is the county seat of Spencer County, Kentucky. It was founded in 1799 on the land of Richard Taylor, father of US President Zachary Taylor. According to Wikipedia, "it is the birthplace of Cliff Carlisle, an early western and blues singer, known for his yodeling and Hawaiian steel guitar."

Newly-elected Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots commissioned 313 Maple designer Alexis Jennings to create the new wall art for her office at City Hall. Family members Eric Jennings, his brother Tim at Petty's Supply, and Brady Spires, LWC education student, worked on production and installation.

The metal art work reflects the Adair County Courthouse clock tower, the new campus water tower and the crown on Begley Chapel at Lindsey Wilson College.
