City of Columbia gas loop completed to New Columbia

The City of Columbia gas loop to New Columbia has been completed. Pictured are Darryl and Minna Miller of Miller Contracting as they made the final connections to the project which began back in November of 2018. Gas Superintendent Ronald Cook said this allows for full service to the expanding city of Columbia.

Rachel Brown is ACMS Student of the Month

ACMS Student of the Month is Rachel Brown, an eighth grader and daughter of Randy and Janella Brown of Columbia. Rachel is a starter on the ACMS Volleyball Team and one of the most positive people to be around. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and to share a smile when just walking down the hallway! She shows compassion for classmates and entertains with her beautiful singing voice during talent shows over the past three years. We look forward to seeing what great accomplishments come from Rachel in the future. - DW

Cedar and rain and cold in the sun

Cedar trees are my favorite because they keep the green with us 365 days a year, even in temperatures that drive leaves off all the other trees and turn rain droplets to ice. Add sunshine behind Cedars on rainy freezing days, and you have art like this picture provides. - LW

Adair County Middle School student Brody Blair, center, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag at the March City Council meeting Monday, March 4, 2019 after City Council Member Sharon Payne, at right, led the opening prayer. She and City Council Member Craig Dean, left, both thanked Brody after the meeting and were proud to hear he was going to do some intern work at City Hall going forward.

Sunset over Columbia, a little warmth in this cold spell

This dramatic sunset was a reminder that even though temperatures were dropping down to below freezing the sunshine will make it a little easier to bear. The location is on the corner of Fortune and Burkesville Streets, looking at the sky above the Columbia United Methodist Church.

Emergency shelter fundraiser begins with proclamation

Proclamation: J.O.Y. Ministries Month in City -- Pamela Hoots, Mayor of the City of Columbia, signed a proclamation declaring March J.O.Y. Ministries Month, kicking off 30 days of fundraising for the emergency shelter to be located beside the 911 Center. The City recognizes the contributions of J.O.Y. Ministries to the community and their work with housing and shelter for the homeless and near homeless. Robin Lewis, president, left and Maggie Coleman, treasurer, stand behind Mayor Hoots.
