Picking holly berries for hungry birds

2019-03-09 - Shelby County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, Mema.
Sister cousins - that's what they call themselves - Hailey, left, and Tillie Waggener, have enjoyed playtime this weekend. They discovered holly berries - green, purple and bright red ones - within their reach and decided it would be good to pick the berries and scatter them to draw birds who could be wet and hungry. Of course no birds came around two bouncy, chatty little girls and when one got scratched by the prickly holly leaves, the effort was tabled leaving any birds in the area to fend for themselves.

Booth girls attend the first To the Nines of 2019

2019-03-09 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler.
Despite damp, cool weather, crowds flocked to the Columbia square on Friday night to enjoy 2019's first "To the Nines" Friday. Brick and mortar shops were filled with people fortunate enough to find a nearby parking spot. Part of "To the Nines", sponsored by the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce, is to encourage small, local businesses to stay open later and offer discounts and give-a-ways. With the exception of winter months, "To the Nines" will be held on the second Friday of each month.

These little sisters are the daughters of Kellis and Cali Booth of Columbia. Left to right, Raegan, Kennedy, Cadence, and Roxie.

Cali said, “We loved the energy of the first night! People weren’t just out to shop and go, but they were lingering, chatting, smiling. That makes it more than shopping and makes it an experience.”
