It's a cloudy, blustery day and when I saw fat, white specks flying on the wind, I thought it was snowing on this second day of spring. On closer look, I was just downwind of a Bradford Pear in full bloom. Friends have pointed out that we have had snow even up in April, so it can't be ruled out. Maeda was one of 25 international students from the Lindsey Wilson College International Student Program (ISP) that assisted in teaching the middle school students throughout the day. According to the All About Birds entry on Song Sparrows, "Song Sparrows flit through dense, low vegetation or low branches, occasionally moving onto open ground after food. Flights are short and fluttering, with a characteristic downward pumping of the tail. Male Song Sparrows sing from exposed perches such as small trees." In this activity, the students dropped food coloring on to the shaving cream clouds to make it look like rain. As it fell to the bottom of the mason jar, it would turn into a small tornado.
